Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescopic booms are big industrial machinery designed with a straight boom arm that is extendable. The boom is typically situated on a rotating turntable. The telescoping boom lifts are usually utilized for jobs that need tasks to be done at heights that exceed other types of lifts. For instance, employees could carry out exterior repairs or renovations on medium sized buildings but using these lifts rather than having the additional work of setting up a pulley system or an outside elevator.
The boom lift bucket usually just holds a single worker. These buckets are more suited to particular tasks such as electrical repair, as opposed to general maintenance or window washing. These lifts are offered with both indoor and outdoor tires and come in gas or electric configurations.
Scissor Lifts
Underneath the scissor lifts work platform are the cross braces in which the machine gets its name. When the braces move together it pushes the platform straight up. As these machines must be directly positioned beneath the work site, as opposed to boom lifts, these units are way more limited in their use.
Scissor lifts do, however, provide bigger platforms that allow the operator controlling the lift to access a bigger work surface when the lift is raised. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of an issue with these kinds of machines, as they should sit on flat ground in order to be used. Scissor lifts are great for being utilized for window installation or cladding, since they provide the employees with the desired mobility; they are also a good alternative for exterior repairs or window cleaning applications.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The boom truck or cherry picker refers to the utility vehicle often utilized to lift personnel for various jobs performed at heights. Typically, these kinds of trucks have a cab. It is here where the driver sits and operates the equipment. There is a bucket for where the worker can stand in addition to a winch for lifting and an actuator arm for raising the boom.
Boom trucks take workers to heights that would usually be inaccessible. The function of cranes is to raise heavy materials or equipment from one place to another. There are various types of cranes which could perform a variety of purposes. Both of these different types of machinery excel at different tasks and are suitable for specific applications and finishing particular jobs.
