Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
A scissor lift consists of a series of crisscrossed steel arms that are linked to make an X pattern. When raised vertically, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform that is situated on top of the lifting mechanism. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting mechanism to be able to keep the workers safe and help to secure their tools.
Scissor lifts offer a low profile that is great for concrete, pavement and hard dirt surfaces. These equipment use either a combustion engine or electric motor to be able to move the lift and power the lifting mechanism. The operator must move the lift itself if she or he has to travel horizontally, because the lift apparatus only operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts utilize the same lifting technology as a regular scissor lift. The key difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base which is specifically made for surfaces that are not even. These models also offer higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive in order to navigate through muddy and difficult terrain without problems.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are designed to be raised both diagonally and vertically. This unit has a small work platform that houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics that move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift unit.
Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms that are connected with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting machinery has a small work platform or a bucket that is outfitted with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are available with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are designed in order to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
To be able to lift a work platform vertically into the air, the aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast. The lift is usually powered pneumatically or electrically and are self-propelled units. These machines provide an excellent solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is really vital to bear in mind that aerial mast lifts are not recommended for off-road application and are limited to vertical movement.
