Propane cylinders are designed to take up very little space and can be kept inside the storage area or in an outdoor facility. It does take some time to switch out a propane cylinder, although, it still does requires operator training in order to be conducted safely and also require knowledge of safety standards like the OSHA or Occupational Health and Safety Administration.
Compared to the electric truck, IC lift trucks are faster and easier to refuel. Nonetheless, the internal combustion engine does create polluting emissions and are really noisy.
NARROW-AISLE FORKLIFTS
The Class 2 forklifts includes many types of forklift which are specifically designed to be used in narrow aisles. The standard storage aisles are 12 feet wide, and this easily allows a counterbalanced lift truck to turn in the aisle and put a load away. Usually, narrow aisles are 8 feet wide, whereas the very narrow aisles are around 5.5 to 6 feet wide. These narrow aisles require specialized forklifts which are capable of putting away cargo that are small enough to turn on a tight radius or without any turning at all.
Reach trucks, turret trucks and order pickers are 3 of the most common narrow-aisle trucks. The differences amongst these trucks are discussed below.
Narrow-Aisle Reach Lift Trucks
The original narrow-aisle forklift is considered to be the traditional reach truck. These equipment do not need a big counterweight and are therefore, small enough to turn in narrow aisles. Instead, stability is provided by the outrigger arms which extend in front of the trucks. Then again, these outrigger arms can prevent the trucks from getting close enough to the storage rack to retrieve and deposit loads, depending on the storage configuration. To be able to overcome this situation, a pantograph was designed. The pantograph is actually a reach truck which is designed with a telescoping mechanism. This enables forks to reach into storage locations concisely and easily.
The ideal environment for a narrow-aisle lift truck is a place that is clean, has good lighting, and has good traffic flow, well-maintained floors, as well as a sufficient turning aisle.
