There are healthy and safety regulations governing the utilization of lift trucks. Any large equipment, such as a forklift, is potentially dangerous and must be used safely. The regulations and rules state that the driver should perform daily checks on the lift truck and more thorough inspections each and every week and on a monthly basis. The following checks must be performed on the forklift:
Lift Truck Brakes - the brakes are a really important component of the lift truck machines and therefore they should be double and tripled checked. A brake inspection is performed with different pressures and pedal heights to determine the sensitivity of the brakes. The brake lights must be checked at the same time.
The Tires - forklift tires are also important for the safe functioning of the lift truck and to the braking system. All the tires have to be properly inspected to ensure they are inflated to the right pressure and that there are no punctures in the tires.
Controller - the lift truck controller system is checked by operating the forks and the release to know that the system is in good working order. Any sign of issues must be reported and tended to instantly. The lift truck must not be utilized until the controller system has been fixed.
Steering Wheel - In order to make certain that the turning of the wheel is right, the operator must check the forklift steering wheel. Lift truck safety depends upon the steering wheel working correctly and responding well. There are different types of checks that can be done to determine the performance of the steering wheel.
Engine Oil - the engine oil needs to be inspected by removing the dip stick from the lift truck engine. The dipstick would show the level of the oil and the colour of the oil. The oil should be refilled if the level is too low. If the colour is off, there could be contamination occurring.
Fire Extinguisher - forklifts are required by law to carry a fire extinguisher. This fire extinguisher will have to be checked to ensure it would function properly in the event of a fire. Different types of fire extinguisher should be checked in specific ways. Like for instance, a dry chemical extinguisher has to be shaken.
